Confirmation

Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries offers dynamic, effective confirmation retreats that participants enjoy and Faith Formation staff believe in.  For 30 years CYFM has been collaborating with parishes to prepare young people for the sacrament of Confirmation.  Our high staff to retreatant ratio, our combination of Capuchin Friars, Cap Corps

Volunteers, and lay staff, along with pedagogically sound and content rich retreats make for powerful retreat experiences that evangelize as well as catechize participants.

We offer two different confirmation retreat options:  Why Be Confirmed and Discipleship.  Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education can choose the one that best compliments their program and responds to the needs of their confirmandi.

Why Be Confirmed (YBC) - a learner centered retreat experience.

  • YBC’s goal:  Each retreatant will be motivated to and will acquire the tools to take the next step in moving forward in his/her relationship with God.
  • YBC’s objective:  Each retreatant will examine his/her relationship with God and attitude toward Confirmation, talk about both, and through the use of the four characters described below evaluate and plan for growth.
  • YBC’s plan:  Why Be Confirmed is organized around four characters who possess a range of attitudes toward Confirmation and our faith which we find in most of our retreatants.  They are generalizations and are not intended to be used to identify, group, or label any particular individuals on the retreat.  Rather, they are to help us to reach out each retreatant, remaining respectful of the experience he/she brings and the potential he/she has to grow closer to God, regardless of the current status of his/her relationship with God.
  • YBC’s Characters:
    • Sarah:  My family is very involved in our parish, and I’m totally excited about Confirmation. I’ve picked out a new name and asked my favorite Aunt to be my sponsor. Religious Ed class is a bit boring, but I like hanging out with my friends there, and I’m glad I’m getting Confirmed.
    • Sam:  My family goes to Mass but doesn’t pray much at home. My older brother has left the Church. I’m not so sure about all of this Confirmation stuff.  I feel like it’s a significant decision, and I’m not sure if I am ready.  I have some real questions and don’t want to take this lightly.
    • Alex: I go to Mass on Christmas and Easter, but my parents aren't really into relgion. My Grandma is the reason I'm getting Confirmed. I'm doing it to keep my family happy. Confirmation = CCD graduation. It's just a relief to be done with it all and collect some cash for making it through.
    • Jamie: I have really given some thought to whether or not I believe in God am willing to commit to remaining Catholic. I have had some influential teachers for whom faith is really important and I'd like to be like them.
